Questions people actually ask

What is Avail?

Avail is a data availability network built on Substrate, the same framework behind Polkadot. Rollups post their data to Avail and anyone can verify it is there. AVAIL is the network token, used for fees and for staking with validators like Atlas.

Why a pool instead of nominating Atlas directly?

With direct nomination you pick the validators yourself, and you only earn in an era when one of your picks is in the active set. Nominate a single validator and you earn nothing while it's inactive. A pool nominates up to 16 validators, and in most eras at least one of them is active and earning for its members, so a pool greatly improves your chance of earning rewards. Atlas runs every pool on this page and keeps the Atlas validator as a fixed pick in each one.

How do I stake AVAIL with Atlas?

Connect SubWallet or Talisman, pick one of the Atlas pools, enter an amount and approve once in the wallet. The AVAIL bonds into the pool, and the pool nominates up to 16 validators with Atlas a fixed pick among them.

Who controls my AVAIL after I join a pool?

You do. Joining a pool never hands Atlas your seed phrase or your tokens, and only your own account can unbond or claim. Every transaction is approved in your wallet, and a Ledger signs inside the wallet the same way.

How are AVAIL staking rewards paid?

Avail pays validators and their backers every era, about a day. Your share lands in the pool as a reward you claim from this page whenever you like. Claiming is its own small transaction, so most people let it build for a while.

What does Atlas charge?

The live card on this page reads it from chain. The pools themselves take no extra cut unless the picker shows one. Rewards depend on era payouts, total stake and validator uptime, so rates can change and aren't guaranteed.

Can I be in two pools?

No. Avail keeps one pool per account. To move, unbond from the pool you are in, wait out the unbonding period, withdraw, then join the new one. A second wallet account can join a second pool straight away.

How long does it take to unstake AVAIL?

Unbonding takes 28 eras, 28 days, and the AVAIL earns nothing in that window. When it ends you withdraw it back to your wallet from this page. Confirm the figure in your wallet before approving, protocol parameters can change.

What are the main risks of staking AVAIL?

AVAIL can lose market value, rewards can change, and tokens are unavailable while unbonding. A validator that breaks the rules can be slashed, and a pool shares that loss across its members in proportion to stake.
